Spread Love: Love-Pack Project 2017 Recap
This year marks the third birthday of the Love-pack Project.
No big announcements, no ceremony—just another quiet journey into the remote mountains, where we handed out one backpack at a time to children who need them most.
A True Beginning
Three years ago, I was the volunteer teacher for a third-grade class at Xinchang Primary School in Haizi Township, Yiliang County, Yunnan.
It was a rainy morning, and many students were late. One of the girls I cared about most—smart, petite, and always well-behaved—arrived late too. As soon as she entered the classroom, she took her homework out of her jacket and said with a smile,
“Hehe, thank goodness my homework didn’t get wet.”
I turned and walked into the office—and couldn’t hold back my tears, she didn't even have a backpack.
That was the moment when the idea of a “Little Sun Backpack” quietly took root in my heart.
Project Sites - 2017
In 2017, we reached three schools in Danba County, Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province:
Mao Niu Primary School (42 students)
Badi Primary School (183 students)
Jiasi-Jiasi Guan Pastoral Village Preschool (25 students)
We are still working to connect with more remote schools. Additional aid sites may be added—stay tuned.
This Year, We Prepared:
Hundreds of Love-pack backpacks
School supplies: watercolor pens, notebooks, pencils, erasers, pens, pencil cases
Sports gear: soccer balls, basketballs, badminton sets, jump ropes
Water bottles
Basic medical supplies (starter first-aid kits)
Winter accessories (earmuffs, gloves, etc.) for cold regions
Handwritten postcards from kind-hearted people across the country
We hope that each small gift brings with it a little care and encouragement.
The Children in the Remote Mountains
Though these schools have been rebuilt, most students come from isolated pastoral communities.
Some live high up in the remote mountains, waking as early as 4 or 5 a.m. to walking several kilometers to school. For the most remote village, volunteers had to drive for three hours and then hike the rest of the way on foot.
The Journey Begins - No Mountain Too High
In late October, our Love-pack team set out from Chengdu. We were met with more than a few challenges along the way.
A volunteer had to cancel at the last minute due to work.
Logistics were delayed due to the national inspection during the 19th Party Congress, and some supplies still hadn’t arrived on the night of departure.
Parts of the route had just seen snowfall days before—roads were slick and icy.
But despite all this, we personally delivered each backpack to the children.
Once the toughest paths are behind us, they become stories worth remembering.
Letters to the Children — and to Us
This year, we once again received many warm postcards and messages from across the country.
The children also wrote their own draws in return:
“I’ll study hard and go to university.”
“I want to be a teacher when I grow up.”
“I miss my mommy.”
These words and smiles are what keep us going.

Our Team · Ordinary People from Everywhere
We are not a large NPO. We have no corporate sponsors, no institutional backing.
We are a small group of everyday people—students, software engineers, doctors, teachers, stay-at-home parents, freelancers...
We come together to claim backpacks, pack supplies, and trek up the remote mountains—simply because we care.
No KPIs. Just a shared wish to do this one thing, and to do it right.
Looking Ahead - Go Steady, Go Far
This year, we tried setting up basic first-aid corners in each school. We started tracking children who may need long-term support. And we are looking forward to having you join us:
If you want to go on a delivery trip
If you have resources, time, or experience to offer
If you'd simply like to sponsor a backpack every year
You are warmly welcome.
To Every Companion Along the Way
There are many who do good in this world.
We’re just trying to do a small, honest thing.
Not for fame. Not for results. Not for applause.
Just because it matters to us.
As someone once said:
“Other than charging our phones every day, what else can we truly commit to?”
For us, it’s this:
Doing one backpack delivery every year.
Not for publicity.
But to keep one promise—that next year, we’ll go into the remote mountains to give some love to children again.
