2015 Milestone

Spread Love – Love-pack first Project.

A Journey of Kindness to the Mountains of Yunnan

Since returning from a volunteer teaching trip to the mountainous region of Yiliang, Yunnan last year, our hearts have remained with the lovely children we met there. Although we’ve kept in touch through the occasional phone call, distance has limited our ability to offer them real, practical help.

Determined to do more, Our founder initiated the "25 RMB Love Backpack Sponsorship Plan," a grassroots campaign to ensure that every child in those mountain villages could receive a proper school backpack — something many of them had never owned before.

 Project Location

All schools involved are located in Haizi Town, Yiliang County, Yunnan Province:

  • Xinchang Elementary School – approx. 500 students

  • Qilong Elementary School – approx. 150 students

  • Xiangyang Elementary School – approx. 300 students

Children’s Realities

The majority of the children come from surrounding mountain villages. Each school day begins with a 1–4 hour walk along narrow, rugged trails. Some children rise before dawn to help their families — cutting grass to feed pigs — before starting their long trek to school. Many carry their books in sacks or plastic bags, and proper school backpacks are rare.

Our goal was simple: to ensure that each child receives a functional, durable backpack. But we didn't stop there.

What We Collected

Thanks to your support, this year we were able to gather and deliver:

  1. Hundreds of Love Backpacks sponsored through the 25 RMB plan

  2. Used books suitable for primary school students

  3. Stationery including pencils, pens, erasers, and colored markers

  4. New and gently used clean clothing

  5. Dozens of handwritten postcards filled with warmth and encouragement

The Journey

Our small but passionate volunteer team personally packed, traveled, and delivered all donations to the three target schools in June 2015. Along the way, we walked the same routes as the children — some up to 2.5 hours through steep mountain paths — and spent precious time getting to know their environment and needs more deeply.

We divided our volunteers into task groups:

  • Logistics team – packing, organizing, and transport

  • Postcard & Emotional Support team – preparing handwritten messages of love

  • On-Site team – distributing materials and engaging with the kids

  • Documentation team – tracking donations, photographing the process, and sharing stories

From early morning skies to the laughter-filled classrooms, every moment was a reminder of the importance of small acts of care.

Postcard Wall of Gratitude

Among the most touching elements were the dozens of heartfelt postcards we received. Each card was read, cherished, and displayed, creating a moving “Postcard Wall” in the school where students could feel the love sent from afar. It wasn’t just about material aid—it was about connection, hope, and emotional warmth.

Transparency Matters

We take pride in maintaining complete transparency.

  • Full income and donation records were documented

  • A detailed expense breakdown was compiled (with only a few small purchases like local postcards lacking receipts)

  • All contributors were individually recorded and acknowledged

After the trip, a public summary of all donation details was shared with supporters.

 Thank You

We are incredibly grateful to each volunteer who contributed time, energy, and love. Whether you donated a backpack, sent a postcard, offered a ride, or helped with packing—you were part of this bridge of kindness. This project was made possible by many caring hearts, and we felt your warmth every step of the way.

Although we are just a small, informal team, this journey proved that you don’t need to be a large organization to make an impact. With enough heart, even small actions can bring real change.

Looking Ahead

One of our goals was to better understand which students may need long-term, one-on-one support. We’re continuing to gather that information and welcome anyone with experience, ideas, or resources to join us in making future efforts more thoughtful and sustainable.

We also warmly invite anyone who would like to join us on our next trip. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned volunteer, we believe that love becomes more grounded when we act together.

In the end, we don’t seek praise or recognition — just the quiet joy of knowing we did something meaningful. Thank you for believing in this project, and for helping us carry that love into the mountains.

Let’s keep walking forward, together.

Spread love. Carry hope. Backpack by backpack.
